Choose your

ARTIST wisely.

Once you have your dress we suggest you start looking around for your beauty Pros. Don’t wait for last minute to book your hair and makeup trial.

Here’s some guide lines on what to consider when looking for an artist/company.

  1. It is important to brows the artist/companies portfolios and social media accounts, checking their online reviews, and comparing the stylists’ overall aesthetics. Choosing a great stylist is the most essential step to a successful trial and, naturally, a Bridal look you’ll love!

  2. Referrals from your venue, a friend who have already vetted the artist/company.

  3. Does this artist work alone or do they have a team they can count on. It’s something to think about if something happened unexpectedly to your artist, do they have back up to replace themselves.

  4. What kind of experience does your artist have? There are so many platforms in the world of makeup & hair today. When an artist has been exposed to them, it will raise their level of artistry and ability to create different looks.

  5. Beware of the cookie cutter artist.

We always tell our brides that they are 3D on wedding day, needing to look amazing at every angle. Your hair & makeup application will need to look beautiful close up from a distant and of course the details need to transfer into your photographs. And lastly last a 10 hour day.

Once you’ve selected your artist, feel free to ask as many questions as you need to. Before your trial—send mood boards, like their social posts, or just say hi!

One of our brides said:

“ You have supported me through this journey. From my engagement photos to my surprise shower you were there making me look beautiful. Once my wedding trial came, it was like seeing an old friend. I felt like I knew for ever.”

Figure out what you want.

Yes, your wedding hair and makeup trial is opportunity for your artist to create your desired look. After all its all about our brides happy smile. Working as a team with your artist, its best to show up with pictures of the direction you want to go in. We also like to see photos of what you don’t want. This absolutely gives your artist the ability to visualize a direction for you. Your makeup & Hair needs the inspiration of those pictures but it also needs to be customized for your particular features.

We are all a little different aren’t we? And we all want a little different twist.

There are infinite beautiful wedding hair and makeup pins on Pinterest, our website and instagram and honestly, it’s pretty hard for our talented stylist to make you look bad, so have fun exploring the possibilities.

Just show up with some clear idea of what you want, and some pins or photos to back it up.

figure out what you don’t want.

So bringing in those photos of things you love and things you hate are all important. Sharing those photos will help define your look even better than sharing a mood board full of stuff you like.

So feel free to collect those and bring them in with you to your trial. Just be sure to steer away from whatever it is that’s so not you on your special day. It’s supposed to be all about you!

Have the rest of your look planned and share pics.

By the time you go to your wedding hair and makeup trial, you should have at least some idea or direction for your look, Plan your big day outfit and accessories. Your bridal hair and makeup should perfectly complement your dress and your accessories should perfectly complement everything else—not to mention, experience stylists work with accessories and dress lines as tools of their trade! Especially those of us who have had the great fortune to have worked fashion for years.

We also encourage our brides to bring in photos of their dress. What if the back of your dress is supremely stunning? We may have a hairstyle suggestion that works best for it Or if you plan on wearing a veil, your stylist will want to design a look that incorporates it perfectly.

Thinking of hair extensions? They will give you the added volume and or length that will help create that desired wedding hair style. Of course this is something that you want an experienced artist to execute. Not every hair stylist is qualified. Most of our brides use our Hair Extensions on wedding day. During their hair trial they can experience how hair extensions can make the difference in choosing that perfect wedding day style, Or if you’re set on wearing a piece of heirloom jewelry, our makeup artist will want to select colors and finishes that complement it, rather than overdoing the sparkle.

The bottom line? All of the details of your wedding look should compliment each other, so everything if you can should be on the table at your wedding makeup and hair trial. Don’t worry though if you are still deciding on them.

Come as you are.

One obvious thing is to not make drastic hair changes before your wedding hair trial. Don’t stress yourself out by getting a major cut or color change. It can be informative for you to ask your stylists how you should prepare for your hair trial. Your hair should be close to wedding-ready and it should be a length and cut that you like unless you plan on using hair extensions, that always makes the difference. You certainly don’t want to go into your trial-run with a brand-new chin-length bob you hate and hope your stylist can magically fix it.

The same goes for makeup and skincare, definitely don’t schedule a tanning session right before your makeup trial, or get any skin-altering facial treatments. You’ll want as neutral a canvas as possible for your hair and makeup artist to work their magic.

Additionally, it’s important that you share with your stylist all the ins and outs of your hair—you know it best, especially when it comes to traits like how well it holds curl and whether it looks best up or down. Be real with your stylist (and yourself) and the real you will shine through on your wedding day!

Don’t be afraid to get what you want.

Once our stylist has finished your look, whether it’s your hairstyle or makeup, don’t hesitate to speak up if it’s not what you were hoping for, or if you want changes made. The wedding makeup trial and hair trial is all about you!

Our stylist won’t be offended if you ask for some changes—in fact, many times we will offer a change that we see will best suit you. Remember, the goal of this appointment is to lock in your wedding day look exactly as you want it, so you can feel confident and ready—without any worries or misgivings the morning of your wedding. The closer you get to perfection during the hair and makeup trials for your wedding, the better!

How do you know you’ve got the perfect finished look? You will feel it and certainly see it. We hope that our brides get a sense of accomplishment from their makeup & hair trial. When they leave feeling relieved, excited and fulfilled we always know it was a success!
